Asheville Airport Car Rental vs. Rideshare: What Actually Makes Sense

Asheville Regional Airport (AVL) sits about 15 to 20 minutes south of downtown, in Arden, close to where our own fleet is based. For a lot of visitors, the real question is not rideshare or rental car at the curb, it is whether you need a car at all for this trip. Here is how to think about it.

When rideshare is enough

If your whole trip is downtown Asheville, walkable breweries, the River Arts District, and hotel to restaurant hops, you can genuinely get by without a car. Rideshare and the local trolley cover that ground fine.

When you actually need a car

The Blue Ridge Parkway, Chimney Rock, Lake Lure, the Biltmore grounds, wineries and waterfalls outside downtown, none of that is a quick rideshare hop, and availability outside the city core gets thin. If any of that is on your list, you are going to want your own vehicle for at least part of the trip.

Rideshare pricing also moves with demand. A ride that is reasonable on a weekday afternoon can jump on a Saturday night downtown or after a big event. A rental has one predictable daily rate you know before you book.
